How many people do you know that actually think outside of, "the box" these days? Odds are, nearly everyone in marketing right now, represents their tactics and thoughts as out of the box.....but the reality is,
For over a year now, our full blown PHP pharmacy site has been rockin' the house. And now with the really exciting new templates, things are about to get even better.
We have all seen the ads. They appear in your Google searches, in your email dashboard, and in nearly every news website I have ever seen. And that’s just the beginning…
I am talking about those FREE BUSINESS CARD offers that are splashed everywhere on the web. They are out there, tempting what I call the “money conscious” business person, into clicking the link and heading to their website for this spectacular deal.
But in my opinion, what they are really trying to do (if you investigate like I do) is reel in the next sucker that might actually fall for the deal.
So how do they do it? Simple; Do It Cheap, which makes YOU LOOK CHEAP!!
First off, expect the cheapest card stock (almost paper thin) that you can get. We’re talking 60 pound stock at best (Anything quality is at least 120 to 140 pound stock). Then, look forward to having your pick from some of the most juvenile and almost silly designs to choose from as your template. Now type in a couple lines of basic text, and then get ready to pay a shipping and handling charge sizable enough to cover the cost of the deal anyway.
And if that wasn’t goofy enough, expect to see the printing companies logo on the backside of the card, which really makes you look cheesy. So as my dad used to say, “What have you done young man!?”
Well, here is what you have done. In one moment, with a lapse of basic marketing knowledge and judgment, you have begun the systematic unraveling of your company brand, purpose, emotional effect in the marketplace, customer connection and trust, and most importantly, you yourself have declared the value of your business to be worth no more than cheap, flimsy, generic, and weightless FREE BUSINESS CARDS!! Balk all you want….that is the truth. And….I know its hard to take.
Let’s face it. The Jig Is Up!! Everyone now knows about these FREE BUSINESS CARD offers, and the stories I hear from folks like me who have been handed one of these cards is one of almost comical sadness. How can you take a businessman serious when they go and do something foolish like this. And if they can’t rationalize the effect that a cheap business card has on their customer’s psyche, then how do they expect us to take them serious on issues much larger and critical in scope?
You see, when you hand your new prospect your business card, you have a second or two tops to capture their attention. Your customer will know in a flicker of a moment, whether they are being handed live ammo or not. And if not, they’ll trash you! You just won’t ever know it probably, because they won’t have the heart to tell you.
So if you take your business, your image and brand, and most critically “Yourself” seriously….then DO NOT SKIMP ON YOUR BUSINESS CARDS!! Because if you do, you have just started the process of killing your business!

I don’t know if I was just tired, bored, a little stupid, or all of these things, but I just had to fold some business cards up into a small cube. In fact, once I started…(you’ll know what I mean soon enough) I actually was quite excited to get the cube made. It’s like I was on a quest.
Judge me, judge me not….this is going to be a great little occupier of time for the kids tomorrow when I teach them this highly coveted skill. And I guarantee you that in your spare time, away from the wife, hidden in your computer room…..you’ll be folding some dang cards!!
